The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) released the top line data from its 2012 Plastic Surgery Statistics Report. The latest data shows more consumers are undergoing plastic surgery. Overall, 14.6 million cosmetic plastic surgery procedures were performed in 2012, up 5 percent since 2011.
Although there was a 2 percent decrease in cosmetic surgical procedures, this was offset by a 6 percent increase in cosmetic minimally-invasive procedures.
Reconstructive plastic surgery procedures were also up 1 percent in 2012, with 5.6 million procedures performed.
